Option 1: Inside or Beside the Terminal
The terminal contains a YOTEL with both landside and airside sections, bookable by short stay blocks, which the airport lists on its official services page. It is the only walk-to-your-gate option and prices accordingly; for a layover under 10 hours, compare it against simply resting in the terminal before paying for any off-site room, since a transfer both ways eats the time a nearby hotel saves.
Option 2: The Villages Around IST
Arnavutkoy district and the Tayakadin side closest to the airport have a thin scatter of guesthouses and mid-range airport hotels, most reachable only by shuttle or taxi. Rates are not reliably cheaper than central Istanbul, choice is narrow, and there is nothing to do around them. Book here only for a genuinely early departure with no city plans, and confirm the shuttle schedule in writing before you rely on it.
Option 3: Stay on the M11 Corridor
The M11 metro links the airport to Kagithane and Gayrettepe in about half an hour, per the airport's public transport page. Flying from Sabiha Gokcen Instead
For SAW departures the same logic points east: the M4 metro serves the airport from the Kadikoy direction, which makes Kadikoy and Uskudar budget hotels the natural pre-flight base.
